... to let you know that HUDSON SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT! HUDSON SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT! He fell asleep at his normal time (between 7-8 pm), woke up twice in rapid succession begging for more milk, and sacked out about 9 pm. He then slept until 5:30 am. Yippee! Hurray!!
[We realize that by sharing this news so excitedly, it means the little guy will probably be up every two hours again tonight. We'll take that chance so you can share in our joy!]
Suzanne woke up in a panic at 3:30 am, wondering what time it was, where she was, and what in the world what was wrong with the situation. Upon regaining her senses (and checking the video monitor to make sure she could see Hudson breathing), she tried to figure out what was different about the previous day that had led to such a good night's sleep. More/less naps? More/less milk? Bath/no bath? Finally it came to her... she had been broken, like a wild horse...
About a month ago, Hudson had been sleeping a 6-8 hour stretch, starting at about 6 pm, followed by waking every 2 hours. This shifted to an initial 4-6 hour stretch starting an hour or so later, followed by waking every 2-3 hours. Then, recently, his sleep schedule was all over the place. For the past week, he'd wake every 2-3 hours all night long. Yesterday morning, Suzanne told Craig, "the sleep deprivation is killing me; I don't know how I can go on like this." (For those wondering where Hudson gets his sense of drama, now you know.) She resorted to a cup of nasty office coffee to make it through the day, most of which she spent in a foul mood, trying to console herself with the thought that someday the little guy would sleep again (or at least go off to college). So, it makes perfect sense according to the First Law of Parenthood* that the little bugger pulled a fast one and slept though the night. And hallelujah for that!
* As soon as you begin to expect your child to do something, he or she will do something else.

OK, you guys obviously need The Trixie Tracker, invented by a Stay-At-Home Dad in Chapel Hill. I've never used it, but I read about it in the news and I think it would appeal to your engineering minds!
